Abel Tasman National Park has a mild coastal climate and is said to experience about 2200 hours of sunshine annually. Yearly mean temperatures lie between 12°C and 13°C and decrease with altitude. In contrast, the annual rainfall of nearly 1400 mm increases with elevation above sea level.

Summers are generally warm with average temperatures ranging between 18°C and 20°C. In the winter, temperatures cool down to an average of 4°C to 5°C but barely fall below zero. The highest precipitation values are measured from June throughout October.
